Summer shoppers shop differently
Impulse purchases increase noticeably during the summer months. Consumers are more active, more social, and more open to new products. They visit the store more frequently but for shorter periods, with a clear preference for convenience, freshness, and the shopping experience.
This creates opportunities but also requires a strategic approach to your shelves.
Three categories that dominate the summer
- Personal care is in its absolute peak season. Deodorant, shower gel, sunscreen, and travel sizes are selling exceptionally well. In the summer, consumers opt for trusted premium brands like FA, Dove, and Axe—certainty trumps experimentation.
- Household products peak in June due to the big summer cleaning. All-purpose cleaners, degreasers, and laundry detergents with fresh scents perform strongly. Consumers hang their laundry outside and want to feel and smell that summer freshness.
- Impulse items at the checkout, small sizes, seasonal bundles, and visible displays along the aisle—all increase the average receipt value without requiring extra effort from the customer.
What works on the sales floor
Create a visible summer zone near the entrance or checkout with personal care and cleaning products. Combine products that are used together: shower gel + deodorant, laundry detergent + outdoor degreaser. And communicate the experience rather than just the price—"Summer-fresh laundry" sells better than a generic promotion.
Speed is everything
Summer peaks are predictable but require a quick response. Reordering too late means lost sales. At Worldtrading Europe, we provide real-time inventory visibility, fast delivery, and a wide range of premium brands ready for the season.
